School Employees Endorse Connie Leyva for State Senate

May 8, 2014 – The California School Employees Association (CSEA) has endorsed Connie Leyva for State Senate, announced the Leyva campaign.

CSEA is the largest classified school employees union in California representing more than 210,000 school support staff throughout the state.  CSEA members are the backbone of California’s public schools and community colleges. They provide essential services in our schools including security, food services, clerical support, school maintenance and operations, transportation, academic assistance, library and media assistance, and computer services.

Connie Leyva has more than a decade of experience leading organizations to improve working conditions and wages for California’s working families. She has built close ties throughout the community from her years of service to local non-profit groups benefiting Leukemia research, children’s causes, and Veterans.  Connie is running for State Senate to get California working again with quality schools, affordable colleges and universities, and investing in our infrastructure to help grow our economy.

Leyva currently serves as President of the California State Federation of Labor, AFL-CIO and as President of the United Food and Commercial Workers Local 1428 - the local union she joined as a grocery worker while in high school.   Connie earned a Bachelors Degree from the University of Redlands.  She lives in Chino with her husband Albert and daughters Allie and Jessie.
