Pomona Leaders Come Together for Connie Leyva

May 5, 2014 – Pomona Councilmembers Christina Carrizosa, Paula Lantz, Debra Martin, John Nolte, and Adriana Robledo have endorsed Connie Leyva for State Senate, announced the Leyva campaign.

The Pomona councilmember endorsements — coming from one of the largest cities in Senate District 20, are helping Leyva build the broadest coalition of support in the race.  Last week, former U.S. Labor Secretary Hilda Solis and Congressmember Judy Chu announced their endorsement of Leyva for Senate.  Leyva is also the only candidate officially endorsed by the California Democratic Party and the California Labor Federation, AFL-CIO.

Connie Leyva has more than a decade of experience leading organizations to improve working conditions and wages for California’s working families. She has built close ties throughout the community from her years of service to local non-profit groups benefiting Leukemia research, children’s causes, and Veterans.  Connie is running for State Senate to get California working again with quality schools, affordable colleges and universities, and investing in our infrastructure to help grow our economy.

Leyva currently serves as President of the California State Federation of Labor, AFL-CIO and as President of the United Food and Commercial Workers Local 1428 - the local union she joined as a grocery worker while in high school.   Connie earned a Bachelors Degree from the University of Redlands.  She lives in Chino with her husband Albert and daughters Allie and Jessie.
