Connie Leyva Earns Endorsement of SEIU California

May 12, 2014 – The California State Council of the Service Employees International Union (SEIU) has endorsed Connie Leyva for State Senate, announced the Leyva campaign.

SEIU California represents more than 700,000 workers throughout the state.  Their membership includes nurses, city and county workers, court employees, security officers, school employees, college professors, home care workers, janitors, social workers, and child care workers.

Connie Leyva has more than a decade of experience leading organizations to improve working conditions and wages for California’s working families by advocating for fair contracts that keep pace with the innovations businesses need to succeed.  She is running for State Senate to get California working again with quality schools, affordable colleges and universities, and investing in our infrastructure to help grow our economy.

Leyva currently serves as President of the California State Federation of Labor, AFL-CIO and as President of the United Food and Commercial Workers Local 1428 - the local union she joined as a grocery worker while in high school.  Connie earned a Bachelors Degree from the University of Redlands.  She lives in Chino with her husband Albert and daughters Allie and Jessie.

Connie is the only candidate for Senate District 20 officially endorsed by the California Democratic Party, California School Employees Association, U.S. Secretary of Labor (ret.) Hilda Solis, Congresswoman Judy Chu, The California Labor Federation, AFSCME California, State Controller John Chiang, and an overwhelming majority of legislative and local elected officials.
