California’s Teachers Endorse Connie Leyva for State Senate

May 29, 2014 – The California Teachers Association (CTA) and California Federation of Teachers (CFT) have endorsed Connie Leyva for State Senate, announced the Leyva campaign.

CTA and CFT represent nearly half a million teachers, counselors, librarians, professors, psychologists and other educators throughout California. The endorsements provide Leyva, the leading Democrat in Senate District 20, with key support from classroom educators as the majority of voters start to make their Election Day decisions.

Connie Leyva has more than a decade of experience leading organizations to improve working conditions and wages for California’s working families. She has built close ties throughout the community from her years of service to local non-profit groups benefiting Leukemia research, children’s causes, and Veterans.  Connie is running for State Senate to get California working again with quality schools, affordable colleges and universities, and investing in our infrastructure to help grow our economy.

Leyva currently serves as President of the California State Federation of Labor, AFL-CIO and as President of the United Food and Commercial Workers Local 1428 - the local union she joined as a grocery worker while in high school.   Connie earned a Bachelors Degree from the University of Redlands.  She lives in Chino with her husband Albert and daughters Allie and Jessie.

Connie is the only candidate for Senate District 20 officially endorsed by Senators Richard Roth and Norma Torres, Service Employees International Union, California Democratic Party, California School Employees Association, U.S. Secretary of Labor (ret.) Hilda Solis, Congresswoman Judy Chu, The California Labor Federation, AFSCME California, State Controller John Chiang, and an overwhelming majority of legislative and local elected officials.
